Jaguars at Patriots, Broncos at Eagles highlight NFL Week 16
By Hank Harris • Dec 26th, 2009 • Category: NFLSunday NFL action features a pair of big matchups as the Jacksonville Jaguars visit the New England Patriots (1 pm ET, CBS) and the Denver Broncos are in Philadelphia to face the Eagles (4:15 pm ET, FOX).
Football Betting Odds have the Patriots favored by 8 points against the Jaguars.
Line movement for this game, at least so far, has been in Jacksonville’s favor. The line opened at 7.5 and moving all the way to 9 at some sportsbooks. But 59 per cent of the public is on the underdogs.
Jacksonville is 7-7 SU and still the playoff hunt. The Jags still have a chance going into Week 16 but will need some help. Only the Baltimore Ravens and the Denver Broncos have a better record amongst wild-card hopefuls, and both have tough games in Week 16.
The Jaguars are 5-9 ATS, and just 2-4 ATS on the road this season. The Patriots are 6-7-1 ATS, but 7-0 straight up at home, 4-3 ATS. While Jacksonville has lost 2 straight and New England has won 2 straight, neither has played well of late. The game will go to whoever turns their play around.
The later game Sunday has the Eagles as 7-point home favorites against the visiting Broncos.
Talk about two teams moving in opposite directions. However, if the season ended last Sunday, both Denver and Philadelphia would be in the postseason. The Eagles are currently in 1st in the NFC West while Denver would be one of the 8-6 Wild Card teams, finishing behind San Diego in the AFC West.
The Eagles are playing their best football this season, winning five straight, whereas the Broncos have dropped six of their last 8 games. Last Sunday’s upset loss at home to Oakland puts them in a really tough spot. The Eagles are 5-2 at home (4-3 ATS), while Denver is a healthy 4-3 on the road, SU and ATS. The Broncos are a slight public favorite as a touchdown underdog, 52% like them to cover.
