Northwestern Faces Purdue in Big Ten Football Wagering Duel

Northwestern Wildcats
(2-2, 0-3 ATS)

Purdue Boilermakers
(1-3, 3-1 ATS)

As a part of your NCAA Football gambling weekend, the Northwestern Wildcats will play host to the Purdue Boilermakers in a heated football wagering affair.

Northwestern enters this game on a horrible string of football betting results. After narrowly avoiding a shocking defeat at the hands of Eastern Michigan three weeks ago, the Wildcats have lost to both Syracuse (37-34) and Minnesota (35-24). This is incredibly bad news for a team that hopes to go back to a bowl game. NW had better reach six wins in a hurry from here, because the L/4 games of the season are against Penn State, Iowa, Illinois, and Wisconsin. Producing offense hasn’t been the problem this year for Northwestern betting fans. Their Wildcats rank 36th in the nation in total offense (416.8 yards per game) and 31st in points (33.0 points per game). The problem has come defensively, where the team has allowed 27.5 points per game and has only intercepted two passes for the entire year.

It’s very arguable that the Boilermakers could be a 4-0 team right now. After suffering heartbreaking losses to Oregon and Northern Illinois, they really let one they had in their grasp get away from them at home last weekend against Notre Dame. QB Joey Elliot’s third touchdown pass of the game came with 3:41 to play, and it gave Purdue its first lead of the game at 21-17. However, the defense failed miserably, allowing QB Jimmy Clausen to march right down the field and to find Kyle Rudolph in the end zone for the game-winning score with 0:24 to play. Purdue’s defense has also been awful this season, as the unit ranks 108th in total ‘D’ (421.5 yards allowed per game) and 98th in points (30.2 allowed per game).

Last year, Northwestern put a 48-26 beat down on the Boilers in Evanston. It was the first time a game had gone ‘over’ the ‘total’ between these two teams since 2001. The home team has covered four of the L/6 CFB betting matches between these Big Ten rivals.
