ESPN proudly presents its first CFB betting doubleheader of the 2009-10 season when the #14 Oregon Ducks and #16 Boise State Broncos collide at Bronco Stadium at 10:15 ET.
You can find the host Broncos favored by 3-points with a game ‘total’ of 63.5 at UcaBet Sportsbook right now.
Last we saw the Oregon Ducks, they stormed back from a 17-7 deficit at the break against the Ok State Cowboys and ended up winning the Holiday Bowl by a 42-31 final count as 1.5-point underdogs. The finished off the year with 10 wins and ranked 10th in the final polls. A changing of the guard has occurred in Eugene with Mike Bellotti stepping aside and Chip Kelly stepping in as head coach; he’s been the Ducks OC since 2007. With just nine starters returning from last year’s 10-win team, the outlook for this year’s team doesn’t look nearly as good.
With Utah getting all the accolades from winning a BCS Bowl last season, lost in the mix were the Boise State Broncos who churned out yet another unbeaten regular season, and toyed with its WAC rivals for the seventh straight year. The Broncos are now 54-2 vs. divisional opponents since 2002; REMARKABLE! Their one-point loss to TCU in the Poinsettia Bowl was their only blemish on their ’09 resume. Though HC Chris Peterson only returns 11 starters from a year ago, the Broncos program has proven their worth through the years and will be in the BCS talks once again.
I truly don’t understand all the love for the Ducks in this spot. Boise opened up a 6.5-point home chalk, and has since been bet down to (-3). I’ve learned my lesson quite a few times fading the Broncos on the “Smurf Turf”. Most recently, I backed another PAC 10 team (Oregon State) in this venue back in ’06 as 7.5-point underdogs. After trailing 14-0, the Broncos scored 42 unanswered points en route to the dominating home win and cover. I understand these are different teams, but I’m not getting in the way of the mystique of the blue carpet. Lay the FG!
Selection: Boise State (-3)
